Hello! My name is Kyle! I am a New Jersey boy and recent graduate of Rutgers University with a M.Ed in College Student Affairs. I am currently a Residential Life professional at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC).
My student affairs journey started in high school and I did not even realize it. I got involved in various programs because I wanted my high school experience to be a meaningful one. When I began attending Rowan University, I began to have the same desires. I was already a student athlete, a member of the swimming and diving team, so I became an RA and I loved it.
I loved it so much that I decided to become a Student Affairs Professional. What does a student affairs professional do? Student affairs is the department or division of services and support for students at institutions of higher education. We use student development theory to gauge the needs of our students and then respond to them accordingly. We are counselors, programmers, mentors, leaders, and so much more.
I just finished my graduate program at Rutgers University. At Rutgers, I was a Graduate Hall Director overseeing a residence hall of students, most of whom were participating in the School of Arts and Sciences Honors College learning community. In April of 2014 I accepted a Residential Life position at UMBC and have since started my career in a field that I love. Feel free to ask any student affairs questions!
